Skateboarding – the most recognized, big trick, halfpipe type of
skateboarding. Utilizing ramps, grinding rails, etc. to perform tricks
and usually oriented around big-air moves. Think X-Games.

Urban
Skateboarding – environment oriented skateboarding typically where standard
trick decks are used to perform across public objects (benches, chairs, tables,
stairs, etc.)

Where you’ll find them: Large Urban
Cities, Indoor/Outdoor Skateparks
Longboarding
– no ramps/minimal tricks, board must be grounded. Longboards are
extremely heavy and resemble more of a snowboard. You’ll find longboarders
on steep roads and declined highways trying to carve and let gravity do the
work for them.

Where you’ll find them: Highways, Roads,
Hills, Parks. Most likely in warmer geographies as this can only be done
outside
Freestyle
– upcoming form of skating that’s originating from the west coast.
Requires a higher level of balance, typically the riders are gymnasts or
dancers. Will be hard to find these skaters as they are more uncommon to
see in public.

really. Could be inside, outside, doesn’t require any specific tangible
item to accomplish the tricks.
